Donate for Daffodils

The Donate For Daffodils campaign helps fund further expansion of The Essex Foundation’s town beautification project. The project was made possible by a bequest from the late Elisabeth “Diz” Callender who loved Essex and the natural world. She was particularly fond of daffodils, and was the driving force behind the annual blooms that delight all who travel along South Main Street.

Over the past few years, the Foundation has planted over 35,000 bulbs, putting Essex on the map as a daffodil destination. Spectacular blooms can be seen along Route 154 (Saybrook Road) across from the Essex fire station; along West Avenue at Sunset Pond; on Methodist Hill below First Congregational Church; and at two Essex Land Trust sites – at Stanley Park next to Trinity Lutheran Church in Centerbrook and at The Millrace in Ivoryton. Funding for the bulb purchase and planting services was made possible by donations made by local individuals and businesses.
